Learn how to reply to incoming messages inside your mailbox with automatic alias matching.

1. Overview

Replying to incoming messages inside My Mailbox is designed to be seamless. When you click reply on a thread, MelMe automatically sets up the response to maintain a professional, uninterrupted conversation.


2. Why This Matters

When a customer writes to billing@yourdomain.com, they expect the reply to come from billing@yourdomain.com—not support@yourdomain.com or your personal Gmail. MelMe ensures you reply from the exact address the recipient wrote to, preserving your brand credibility.


3. How to Use It

Replying to a Thread:

  1. Open your Inbox in My Mailbox.
  2. Select the email conversation thread you want to reply to.
  3. Click the Reply button at the bottom of the reading panel.
  4. Automatic Matching: MelMe reads the conversation headers and automatically sets the From field to the exact alias address that received the original email.
  5. Type your reply in the rich text area.
  6. Click Send. The reply will be sent out, and the conversation thread will update to show your outgoing message at the bottom.

4. Common Mistakes

  • Overriding the From Address accidentally: If you have multiple aliases routed to the mailbox, you can manually change the From dropdown when replying. However, doing so can confuse the recipient if they suddenly receive a reply from a different address than they wrote to. Stick to the automatically selected address!
  • Leaving the compose editor open: If you navigate away without clicking Send, your draft reply will not be saved automatically. Always click Send or copy your text before switching pages.

5. Tips

Quick Conversational Layout: The reply interface keeps the customer's previous message visible directly above your compose box, so you can easily reference their questions as you type your response.
