Introduction

Welcome to MelMe! Learn about what MelMe is, why it was built, and the core concepts that power the system.

1. Overview

MelMe is a powerful yet incredibly simple email routing and mailbox management system. It enables you to use your own custom web domains (e.g., yourname.com) to create unlimited professional email addresses (aliases) like hello@yourname.com or billing@yourname.com. You can then forward these emails directly to your everyday inbox or organize them into independent, secure mailboxes within MelMe.

2. Why This Matters

Paying for multiple traditional business email inboxes (like Google Workspace or Office 365) quickly gets expensive. At the same time, managing emails for different web projects, clients, or team members often leads to visual clutter and security concerns.

MelMe solves this by putting you in absolute control of your digital communications:

  • Cost Savings: Run unlimited aliases and multiple domains under a single dashboard without per-user pricing.
  • Privacy Protection: Avoid sharing your real personal email address with online platforms; instead, give them an alias.
  • Organization: Separate your business inquiries from your personal shopping newsletters cleanly.
  • Secure Delegation: Create independent logins for specific departments (e.g., support@yourdomain.com) so team members can handle emails without accessing your main account settings.

3. Core Concepts

To successfully navigate MelMe, there are three main concepts you should know:

ConceptWhat it isEveryday Analogy
DomainYour website address (e.g., mybusiness.com). This is the root identity of your emails. The physical building of your company.
AliasA specific email address built on your domain (e.g., sales@mybusiness.com).A mail slot on the front door with a specific label.
MailboxA secure, isolated storage box where emails actually arrive and can be replied to.The locked filing cabinet inside the building where letters are stored.

How They Work Together

  1. An email is sent to hello@yourdomain.com (the Alias).
  2. MelMe looks at your settings:
    • Forward Mode: MelMe forwards the email instantly to your personal inbox (e.g., yourpersonal@gmail.com).
    • Mailbox Mode: MelMe stores the email inside your secure MelMe inbox (the Mailbox). You can log in specifically to this Mailbox to view and reply.

4. Common Mistakes

  • Confusing an Alias with a Mailbox: Remember, an alias is just a pointer address, whereas a mailbox is actual storage. You don't log in to an alias; you log in to a Mailbox.
  • Typing the Wrong Domain during Verification: Make sure the root domain matched what you purchased from your registrar (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap) exactly.

5. Tips

Recommended Best Practice: Use Forward Aliases for newsletters, social media registrations, and temporary accounts. Use Mailbox Aliases for important professional conversations, customer support, and invoicing.
