Domain Not Verifying

Troubleshoot issues when verifying your custom domain DNS records in MelMe.

1. Problem

You have added your domain to MelMe and copied the DNS records to your registrar, but the status remains Pending or changes to Failed after you click verify.

2. Common Causes

  • DNS Propagation Delay: DNS records can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 24 hours to update across the internet.
  • Typing or Copy-Paste Errors: Long text strings for DKIM or TXT keys have minor spelling errors or missing symbols.
  • Duplicate Domain Suffixes: Entering the host name as verification.yourdomain.com inside a registrar that automatically appends your domain, causing a duplicate entry (verification.yourdomain.com.yourdomain.com).
  • Cloudflare Proxy Settings: Enabling the Cloudflare proxy (orange cloud) on verification CNAME records.

3. How to Fix It

Step 1: Wait for Propagation

If you just updated your DNS records, wait at least 15–30 minutes before testing verification again to allow the records to propagate globally.

Step 2: Verify Host Names

Double-check how your registrar handles host names:

  • If the registrar automatically appends your domain, you should only enter the sub-part in the name/host field. For example, enter @ instead of yourdomain.com, or verification instead of verification.yourdomain.com.

Step 3: Set Cloudflare CNAMEs to DNS Only

If you manage your domain via Cloudflare:

  1. Log in to your Cloudflare DNS panel.
  2. Locate the CNAME (DKIM) records you added for MelMe.
  3. Edit each record and toggle the Proxy status to DNS Only (grey cloud icon).
  4. Save the changes and verify again in MelMe.

4. Common Mistakes

  • Manually typing verification keys: Avoid manual typing; always click the Copy button next to each value in the MelMe panel to ensure characters are matched perfectly.

5. Tips

DNS Lookup Tools: You can use free web tools (like dnschecker.org or dig) to check if your DNS TXT and MX records are publicly visible before verifying in MelMe.
