Email Forwarding Not Working

Troubleshoot issues when forward-mode aliases fail to redirect emails to your personal inbox.

1. Problem

Emails sent to your forward-mode alias (e.g. newsletter@yourdomain.com) are not arriving in your external personal inbox (e.g. your Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook address).

2. Common Causes

  • Typo in Forward Destination: The forward email address is spelled incorrectly in the MelMe settings.
  • Spam Filters: The external email provider (Gmail, Yahoo) routed the forwarded email directly into your Spam or Junk folder.
  • Sender SPF/DKIM Restrictions: Some external mail providers block forwarded emails if they suspect them to be spam or if the original sender's security signature is highly strict (DMARC alignment checks).
  • MX Records Mismatch: The domain's MX records are not pointed to MelMe.

3. How to Fix It

Step 1: Check Your Personal Spam Folder

  1. Open your personal email inbox (Gmail, Yahoo, etc.).
  2. Go to the Spam, Junk, or Promotions folder.
  3. If the test email is there, mark it as Not Spam or Add to Safe Senders to ensure future forwarded emails arrive directly in your primary inbox.

Step 2: Verify the Destination Spelling

  1. Log in to the MelMe Admin Panel and go to Aliases.
  2. Click Edit next to your alias.
  3. Look closely at the destination email. Confirm that every character, domain, and dot is perfect.
  4. Save any corrections.

4. Common Mistakes

  • Replying directly to a forwarded email: If you reply to a forwarded email in Gmail, your personal Gmail address will show as the sender, revealing your real identity. If this happens regularly, switch the alias to Mailbox Mode to handle your professional replies cleanly inside MelMe!

5. Tips

Inbox Filters: In Gmail, you can create a filter to "Never send to spam" for all emails sent to your custom alias (e.g. to:alias@yourdomain.com), ensuring perfect delivery.
