Creating a Mailbox in Detail

A complete guide on how to configure and deploy a new mailbox container in MelMe.

1. Overview

Deploying a new mailbox container allows you to establish a secure, isolated workspace to receive and send emails under your domain brands.

2. Why This Matters

Properly setting up a mailbox's name, slug, and sender name ensures a professional customer experience and clear internal organization as you scale your email infrastructure.

3. How to Use It

Step-by-Step Mailbox Creation:

  1. Log in to the Admin Dashboard and select Mailboxes in the sidebar.
  2. Click Create Mailbox in the top right corner.
  3. Complete the form fields:
    • Mailbox Name: A clean internal title for identification (e.g., "Main Helpdesk").
    • Mailbox Slug: A unique URL-friendly word (using only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens). This is the username for logging into the mailbox (e.g. helpdesk).
    • Sender Name: The display name recipients see when they get an email from you (e.g., "MelMe Help Desk").
    • Personal Email (Optional): Reference email for administrative or password recovery purposes.
    • Description (Optional): Internal notes about who has access or the purpose of the mailbox.
    • Mailbox Password: Set a secure password for this specific container.
  4. Click Create Mailbox. The container is immediately active!

4. Common Mistakes

  • Choosing a duplicate slug: Slugs must be completely unique across your entire MelMe workspace. If support is taken, try support-desk or support-inbox.
  • Not recording the credentials: Make sure to note down the Mailbox Slug and Password securely (such as in a password manager). You will need these to log in to the My Mailbox app.

5. Tips

Security Recommendation: Always use unique passwords for each mailbox you create, especially if you are sharing access with different team members. Do not reuse your primary admin password!
