Assigning Aliases to Mailboxes
Learn how to link multiple custom email addresses to a single mailbox container.
1. Overview
Linking an alias to a mailbox is how you direct incoming emails into your secure storage. Once an alias is assigned to a mailbox, all mail sent to that address will bypass forwarding and land directly inside that mailbox.
2. Why This Matters
By assigning multiple aliases to a single mailbox, you can consolidate different email streams. For example, you can have hello@yourcompany.com, info@yourcompany.com, and office@yourcompany.com all route to the same "General Queries" mailbox, saving you from having to check multiple inboxes.
3. How to Use It
Step-by-Step Assignment:
- Go to the Aliases tab in the Admin Panel.
- Click Create Alias (or click Edit on an existing alias).
- Under Mode, select Mailbox.
- In the Mailbox dropdown field, choose the specific Mailbox you want to link.
- Click Save Changes.
Any incoming email sent to that alias is now routed to the selected Mailbox in real-time.
4. Common Mistakes
- Leaving the Alias in Forward Mode: If you create a mailbox, but forget to switch your alias's Mode from "Forward" to "Mailbox," your emails will continue to be forwarded to your personal email, and the MelMe mailbox will remain empty.
- Orphaned Aliases: If you delete a mailbox, any aliases linked to it will lose their target destination and stop working. Always update your aliases' routing before deleting a mailbox!
5. Tips
Domain Freedom: You can assign aliases from Domain A (e.g. info@domainA.com) and Domain B (e.g. info@domainB.com) to the exact same Mailbox. This is incredibly helpful for managing multiple sister companies or brand projects together!
