Managing Your Aliases

Learn how to edit alias routing, verify configurations, and monitor logs to keep your emails running smoothly.

1. Overview

Once your aliases are set up, you can manage, filter, and monitor them directly from the main Aliases page. MelMe makes it simple to change where an alias points, check delivery histories, and keep your workspace tidy.

2. Why This Matters

As your business or personal workflows evolve, you may need to update your email routes—such as changing who handles billing questions or pointing a contact address to a new mailbox. Knowing how to efficiently manage your aliases prevents configuration downtime.

3. How to Use It

1. Editing Routing Destinations

If you need to change a forward destination or assign an alias to a different mailbox:

  1. Go to the Aliases tab.
  2. Locate your alias and click the Edit button (pencil icon).
  3. Switch the mode or select a different destination/mailbox.
  4. Click Save Changes. The routing rules are updated instantly in real-time.

2. Monitoring Email Logs

If you want to verify if an alias is receiving emails:

  1. Go to the Admin Dashboard's main log or click Logs next to your domain.
  2. You can view all email activities associated with each alias, including whether they were successfully forwarded, routed, or if an error occurred.

4. Common Mistakes

  • Changing routing during a critical conversation: If you switch an alias from Mailbox mode to Forward mode mid-conversation, future messages will be forwarded and will no longer show up in the mailbox thread history. Plan your routing updates during low-activity periods!
  • Mismatched domains: Ensure you are editing the correct alias if you have similar names across different domains (e.g., contact@brandA.com vs contact@brandB.com).

5. Tips

Organized Search: Use the search bar at the top of the Aliases page to quickly find specific aliases by name or domain, saving you time as your list of addresses grows.
