Creating an Alias

A detailed step-by-step guide to generating and configuring your email aliases in MelMe.

1. Overview

Adding a new alias allows your custom domain to receive emails under a new username. MelMe allows you to create unlimited aliases for any verified domain on your account.

2. Why This Matters

Creating aliases dynamically lets you manage multiple projects or department addresses on the fly, instantly adapting your communications as your brand or team grows.

3. How to Use It

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Log in to the Admin Dashboard and click Aliases in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Create Alias button in the upper right.
  3. Fill in the configuration fields:
    • Local Part: The text prefix before the @ symbol (e.g. billing for billing@mycompany.com).
    • Domain: Choose the verified custom domain from the list.
    • Personal Email (Optional): Enter a backup email address for reference.
    • Routing Mode:
      • Forward: Reroutes emails to your own personal inbox.
      • Mailbox: Delivers emails to a secure, isolated MelMe inbox container.
    • Destination / Mailbox: Based on your routing mode, enter the destination email or select your target mailbox from the list.
  4. Click Save or Create Alias. The alias is immediately active!

4. Common Mistakes

  • Creating duplicate local parts: You cannot have two aliases named hello@mybrand.com. Each local part for a specific domain must be completely unique.
  • Adding special characters: Avoid using special characters (like spaces or brackets) in the local part of your alias. Stick to letters, numbers, hyphens, and periods (e.g., john.doe or billing-queries).

5. Tips

Active Toggle: All aliases are created as Active by default. You can temporarily turn off any alias from the aliases list using the active switch, without deleting the configuration.
