Setting Your Sender Name
Learn how to manage the display name recipients see when they receive emails from your mailbox.
1. Overview
Your Sender Name is the display name that appears next to your email address in the recipient's inbox (e.g. showing "John Doe" instead of just john@yourdomain.com). You can set and update this display name directly within your mailbox settings.
2. Why This Matters
An email from a blank or anonymous sender looks highly suspicious and reduces open rates. A professional, clear Sender Name builds immediate trust, improves open rates, and makes your communication immediately recognizable to your customers.
3. How to Use It
Setting the Sender Name:
- Log in to the My Mailbox app.
- Click Settings in the left sidebar menu.
- Locate the Sender Name input field.
- Enter your professional display name:
- For individual business:
Sarah Jenkins - For company department:
MelMe Billing Team - For a combined feel:
David | MelMe Support
- For individual business:
- Click Save Changes. All outgoing emails sent after this update will use the new display name.
4. Common Mistakes
- Leaving it default or blank: If left unconfigured, some mail servers will display your email slug or leave the name field empty, which looks generic.
- Using overly long titles: Keep your display name under 30 characters. Long names can get cut off by email clients, especially on mobile devices.
5. Tips
Consistency Recommendation: Maintain consistency across your team. For example, if multiple employees use different mailboxes, have them all use a standard format like [Name] at [Company] (e.g. David at Acme).
