Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Step-by-step guide to setting up Two-Factor Authentication to double your account security.
1. Overview
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds a vital second layer of defense to your Admin Account. When enabled, logging in requires two things: something you know (your password) and something you have (a dynamic code generated on your mobile phone).
2. Why This Matters
Passwords can be guessed, phished, or stolen in database leaks from other sites. 2FA ensures that even if a malicious actor acquires your password, they cannot access your MelMe account because they do not have your physical mobile phone.
3. How to Use It
Step-by-Step Setup:
- Log in to your MelMe Admin Panel.
- Click on Profile in the sidebar.
- Locate the Two-Factor Authentication section.
- Click Enable 2FA.
- A QR code will display on the screen along with a text key.
- Open your favorite authenticator app on your phone (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Bitwarden).
- Scan the QR code with your phone's camera.
- Enter the 6-digit verification code generated by your app into MelMe to verify the setup.
- Save Backup Codes: MelMe will display a list of emergency backup codes. Copy and save them in a highly secure place.
4. Common Mistakes
- Losing access to your phone without backups: If you lose your phone, delete the authenticator app, or buy a new phone without migrating your keys, you won't be able to log in. Keep your backup codes safe to prevent permanent lockouts!
- Sharing 2FA QR Codes: Never screenshot or share your 2FA setup QR code with anyone.
5. Tips
Multiple Authenticator Apps: You can scan the same QR code on multiple devices (like your phone and your tablet) during the initial setup if you want a backup authenticator device!
