Biometric Passkeys

Learn how to set up and use Passkeys for lightning-fast, passwordless, and highly secure logins.

1. Overview

Passkeys represent the future of web security. They allow you to log in to MelMe using your device's built-in security chips and biometrics—such as Apple TouchID, FaceID, Windows Hello, or Android Fingerprint—bypassing traditional passwords entirely.

2. Why This Matters

Passkeys offer a remarkable blend of unmatched security and ultimate convenience:

  • Phishing Proof: Unlike passwords, passkeys are tied specifically to the MelMe website domain. A fake phishing site cannot steal your passkey.
  • No Password to Remember: You don't have to type long strings or remember complex keys. A single touch of your fingerprint reader logs you in.
  • Biometric Security: The login is protected by your local device biometrics, meaning only you can execute it.

3. How to Use It

Step-by-Step Setup:

  1. Log in to your MelMe Admin Panel.
  2. Go to the Profile page.
  3. Scroll to the Passkeys section and click Add Passkey.
  4. Give your passkey a recognizable name (e.g. "Work Macbook" or "iPhone").
  5. Your browser will prompt you to set up a passkey using your device biometrics (e.g. fingerprint or face scan) or local security key (like YubiKey).
  6. Complete the fingerprint or face scan. Your passkey is registered!

Logging in with your Passkey:

  1. Go to the MelMe login page.
  2. Click Sign in with Passkey.
  3. Scan your finger or face. You will be logged in instantly!

4. Common Mistakes

  • Assuming biometrics are sent to MelMe: For absolute privacy, your actual biometric data (fingerprint or face map) never leaves your device. The device merely sends a secure mathematical confirmation to MelMe.
  • Adding a passkey on a public computer: Never register a passkey on a public library or shared internet café computer. Only register passkeys on devices you personally own.

5. Tips

Multiple Passkeys: You can register multiple passkeys (e.g. one for your work laptop, one for your mobile phone). This ensures you can log in securely from any of your active devices!
