Getting Started

Creating a Mailbox

Step-by-step instructions to create an isolated, secure inbox container within MelMe.

1. Overview

A Mailbox is a secure, isolated digital storage box inside MelMe. Unlike an alias, which only routes mail, a mailbox has its own storage, unique credentials, and dedicated inbox interface.

2. Why This Matters

Creating isolated mailboxes allows you to store emails directly inside MelMe instead of forwarding them out. This is critical for:

  • Business Operations: Keeping professional business emails separate from your personal mailbox.
  • Team Delegation: Creating a custom inbox for an employee (e.g., support@yourdomain.com) with their own login, keeping your administrative dashboard private.

3. How to Use It

Step 1: Open the Mailboxes Page

  1. Log in to your MelMe admin dashboard.
  2. Click Mailboxes in the sidebar.

Step 2: Create a Mailbox

  1. Click the Create Mailbox button.
  2. Fill in the required fields:
    • Mailbox Name: A internal name to identify the mailbox (e.g., "Customer Support").
    • Mailbox Slug: A unique URL-friendly text identifier (e.g., support-inbox). This will be used to log in.
    • Sender Name: The display name recipients will see when you send emails from this mailbox (e.g., "MelMe Support Team").
    • Mailbox Password: Set a strong password. This is what you or your team will use to access the mailbox.
  3. Click Create Mailbox.

Step 3: Connect Your Alias to the Mailbox

Now that your mailbox is created, link an alias to it so it starts receiving mail:

  1. Go back to the Aliases tab.
  2. Create or edit an alias (e.g., support@yourdomain.com).
  3. Set the Mode to Mailbox.
  4. Select your new Mailbox from the list.
  5. Save changes. Any email sent to this alias will now land directly in this mailbox!

4. Common Mistakes

  • Confusing the Mailbox Slug with an Email Address: When logging in to the My Mailbox app, you do not log in with an email address. You log in using your unique Mailbox Slug and the Mailbox Password you set.
  • Weak Mailbox Passwords: Because mailboxes can be accessed directly from the web, ensure you set a strong, unique password for each mailbox.

5. Tips

Multiple Aliases: You can route as many aliases as you want to a single mailbox. For example, you can route help@yourdomain.com, billing@yourdomain.com, and info@yourdomain.com all to the same "Support Inbox" mailbox.
