Domains Overview
Learn what domains are in MelMe and why they serve as the foundation of your custom email branding.
1. Overview
In MelMe, a Domain is the web address that you own (e.g., yourbusiness.com). By connecting your domain to MelMe, you unlock the ability to generate any email address ending with that domain (like hello@yourbusiness.com or billing@yourbusiness.com).
You can think of your domain as a plot of land on the internet, and MelMe as the builder that constructs your virtual email post office on that land.
2. Why This Matters
When you send a business email from a generic address like mycompany@gmail.com, it can look unprofessional. Using an email address built on your own custom domain establishes instant authority, reassures your customers that you are a legitimate business, and keeps your email communications highly organized.
3. How to Use It
To get your domain up and running in MelMe:
- Buy a custom domain from a domain registrar (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, or Cloudflare).
- Go to the Domains tab in your MelMe Admin Dashboard.
- Add the domain name.
- Copy the generated DNS routing codes provided by MelMe.
- Paste these codes into your domain registrar's DNS panel.
- Verify your setup!
4. Common Mistakes
- Confusing Domain Ownership: You cannot connect a domain to MelMe unless you actually bought it and have access to edit its settings on the registrar's website.
- Adding the HTTP protocol: Never add
https://orhttp://before your domain name in MelMe. Simply typeyourdomain.com.
5. Tips
Domain Multi-Use: You can add as many separate domains as you want to a single MelMe account, allowing you to run multiple different web projects or brands side-by-side with no extra fees!
